What is HUR smart resistance equipment?

The smartest strength equipment in the world, and the most gentle

Our HUR machines are pneumatic resistance machines imported from Finland. Instead of stacked weights, they use air pressure to create resistance, which is exceptionally smooth and gentle on joints.

Each machine reads your personal HUR card, recalls exactly where you stopped last, and progressively increases resistance as you get stronger. Every rep and every range-of-movement measurement is recorded to your profile in real time, so you and your trainer/physio always have a complete, objective picture of your progress.

No guesswork, no fumbling with pins. Built for people who want to move well for decades.

Pneumatic air resistance

Air pressure replaces iron weights, so there's no jarring, no inertia, no strain on joints. Safe at any age or fitness level, including recovery from injury or surgery.

Smart card personalisation

Tap your HUR card on any machine, and it recalls exactly where you left off. No dials to set, no guessing your last weight, no setup errors.

Automatic progress tracking

Every rep, resistance level and range of movement uploads to your profile the moment you finish. Your physio or trainer sees the full picture before your next session.

100g incremental loading

Resistance increases in steps as small as 100 grams, fine enough for genuinely safe progression, whether you're rehabbing an injury or building strength for the decades ahead.

How does HUR compare to traditional strength equipment?

HUR pneumatic machines differ from conventional weight stack equipment in several important ways, particularly for safety, accessibility, and long-term progression.

What cardio equipment is available at Be Well Hawthorn?

Treadmill

Walking, jogging and running at an adjustable incline and pace. A versatile foundation for building cardiovascular fitness, whatever your starting point or goal.

Elliptical trainer

Zero-impact, full-body cardio that builds endurance without jarring the joints, ideal for high-volume training as well as for anyone managing joint concerns or returning from injury.

Rowing machine

Full-body, low-impact cardio that builds back, core and leg strength at the same time. One of the most efficient conditioning tools available for beginners and serious athletes alike.

Stationary bike

Seated cycling for cardiovascular fitness at an intensity you control. Great for high-output interval training, and equally well suited to lower limb rehab or injury recovery.

Does Be Well Hawthorn have free weights and a stretching area?

For members who want to supplement their HUR program with functional and compound movement work.

Alongside the HUR SmartZone and cardio floor, the facility includes a free weights area with a full dumbbell rack and a dedicated stretching and mat area. These spaces support warm-up routines, cool-down stretching, bodyweight exercises, and the resistance band and medicine ball work featured in our strength training classes.

Both areas are available to members outside of scheduled class times, giving you the flexibility to build sessions that complement your structured program without waiting for a machine or a booking window.

We also offer our Bone Vitality Program, run by our physiotherapists, which uses free weights as a core part of its curriculum. The program teaches you how to lift safely and progressively, building bone density and functional strength under expert guidance.

Who designs the specialised programs at Be Well?

Behind every specialised program at Be Well is a physiotherapist

Your Well-on-Track (roadmap) reviews, the Bone Vitality Program and Clinical Exercise Pilates are all designed by our in-house physiotherapy team, tailored to your strength, goals and fitness level.

When you join Be Well, a physiotherapist maps your goals, your current fitness, and your health history into a structured plan that evolves with you over time. Because your physio has access to your HUR progress data, every review is grounded in what you have actually done, not what you think you have done. That level of professional oversight is what makes Be Well a different kind of place to train.

The HUR pneumatic resistance machines are exceptionally well suited to older adults. Because they use air pressure rather than iron weights, there is no inertia and no risk of dropping weights, and resistance can be increased in increments as small as 100 grams. Your physiotherapist designs a personal program that starts at the right level for your body and progresses at exactly the right pace.

You receive a personal HUR card when you join. Tap it on any machine and it instantly recalls your resistance level, repetitions, range of movement, and power output from your last session. Your physiotherapist reviews this data at your Well-on-Track appointments to adjust your program based on what you have actually done.

Yes. No classes are ever held in the HUR SmartZone, so the machines are always available to members. The free weights area, mat area, cardio floor, and studio rooms outside of scheduled class times are also included with your membership.
All weekly classes are included, covering yoga, Mat Pilates, Reformer Pilates, Be Strong, Bone Strength, Flow Well, Chair Balance, and more. Specialised programs including Clinical Pilates and the 12-Week Bone Vitality Program are also available. See all classes or speak to our team about eligibility.
If you are just getting back into exercise, the HUR air resistance machines are an excellent starting point. Resistance increases in increments as small as 100 grams, so you can build strength gradually without placing excess strain on joints. For those ready to commit to a structured program, our 12-Week Bone Vitality Program is designed and led by our physiotherapists specifically to build bone density and functional strength at this stage of life.

The HUR machines are the ideal starting point. There are no heavy plates to load, no risk of dropping weights, and resistance starts at effectively zero. Tap your HUR card, the machine configures itself, and your physiotherapist-designed program guides you from there. Safe, gradual, and built around your body from day one.
