Frequently asked questions

Strength training is one of the most effective ways to build muscle, improve bone density, boost metabolism, and support long-term health. The best approach depends on your goals, fitness level, and any specific health considerations. At Be Well Hawthorn, Be Strong and Bone Strength Training both build muscle and improve bone density. The key difference is that Bone Strength Training is physiotherapist-led, capped at 4 people, and bespoke to your body, while Be Strong is a personal trainer-led class capped at 8 people and suited to all fitness levels.

Absolutely. Be Strong is designed to welcome people at all fitness levels. With a maximum of 8 people per class, our personal trainer can adapt movements to suit individual needs so nobody is left behind and nobody is held back. You do not need any prior experience to get started.

Yes. Strength training is strongly recommended for older adults and is one of the most effective tools for maintaining muscle mass, supporting bone density, and reducing the risk of falls. Be Strong is designed to go at your own pace, with a maximum of 8 people so your trainer can keep a close eye on technique. For those who need a more clinical approach, Bone Strength Training is led by physiotherapists with specialist expertise in healthy ageing and bone health, with a maximum of 4 people per session.

Yes. Resistance and weight-bearing exercise is one of the most evidence-based ways to maintain and improve bone density. Be Strong incorporates exercises specifically chosen to support bone health. If you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia, Bone Strength Training offers a clinically supervised pathway led by physiotherapists, with sessions capped at 4 people for a highly personalised experience. An initial physiotherapy appointment is required to join. Learn more about the Bone Vitality Program here.

Most people benefit from two to three strength sessions per week. Consistency over time is what drives results, and our trainers can help you build a routine that works for your lifestyle. Both Be Strong and Bone Strength Training run multiple times each week, so it is easy to find sessions that fit around your schedule.

Yes. Building muscle increases your resting metabolic rate, which means your body burns more energy even outside of training. Combined with cardiovascular effort, Be Strong classes are an effective and time-efficient option for those with weight management goals.

Comfortable activewear and supportive training shoes. We recommend bringing a water bottle. If you are joining Bone Strength Training for the first time, your physiotherapist will let you know if there is anything specific to bring ahead of your initial appointment.

In addition to our strength classes, members have access to HUR pneumatic resistance machines, cardio equipment, free weights, and a mat area for independent training at any time.

Easy. The best strength training classes in Hawthorn are at Be Well Hawthorn. Be Strong, capped at 8 people with a dedicated personal trainer, and Bone Strength Training, capped at 4 people with physiotherapist oversight, give you an experience that goes well beyond your average gym class.
